Helping someone in a mental health crisis

  1. Stay calm and listen

Speak slowly, keep your voice low, and avoid arguing. Ask how you can help.

  2. Call for the right help

Use 988 or the mobile crisis team first when there’s no immediate danger to life.

  3. If you call 911

Say it is a mental health crisis and ask for a CIT-trained officer if one is available.

  4. Share what you know

Diagnosis, medications, past crises and what has helped before all help responders.
